Announcement: Tulsa looking forward to rematch with BYU

In some circles, people still are talking about the last time Tulsa met BYU on the football field. The Golden Hurricane defeated the Cougars 55-47 on Sept. 15, 2007, at Tulsa’s Chapman Stadium. It’s a game that Tulsa head coach Bill Blankenship, then an assistant coach, called an important victory for the Golden Hurricane football program. It also was the only time Tulsa had beaten BYU in seven meetings.

Vice Admiral Kevin McCoy to serve as Honorary Team Captain

The Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl has named Vice Admiral Kevin M. McCoy, Commander of Naval Sea Systems Command, as the honorary team captain for the 2011 postseason college football bowl game. McCoy will begin his duties as honorary team captain by performing the pregame coin toss before the 11 a.m. (CST) kickoff on ESPN. He will also be responsible for performing the induction ceremony at halftime for recruits from all five branches of the military.

Tulsa Accepts Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl Invitation

The University of Tulsa has accepted a 2011 bid from the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl. The 8-4 Golden Hurricane will face 9-3 BYU on Sunday, Dec. 30 at Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas, Texas. As the official bowl game that honors all branches of the United States armed forces, the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl will air at 11 a.m. (CST) on ESPN and ESPN Radio. Tulsa will be competing in the NCAA postseason for the second-straight year after posting a 62-35 win over Hawai’i at the 2010 Sheraton Hawai’i Bowl.

Medal of Honor Recipient Salvatore Giunta to receive 2011 Great American Patriot Award

Staff Sergeant Salvatore A. Giunta has been named the 2011 recipient of the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl’s Great American Patriot Award. The award will be presented by Armed Forces Insurance, the sponsor of the award and the official insurance partner of the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl. SSG Giunta officially received the prestigious Medal of Honor on November 16, 2010 for his exemplary service in Afghanistan. He was the first living recipient of the Medal of Honor since the Vietnam War.

3x Super Bowl Champion Russell Maryland to speak at Team Kickoff Luncheon

Dallas Cowboys great and three-time NFL Super Bowl Champion, Russell Maryland, has been named the keynote speaker of the 2011 Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl Team Kickoff Luncheon, presented by the Omni Fort Worth Hotel and American Airlines. The luncheon will take place at noon (CST) on December 29, 2011, the day prior to the annual postseason college football bowl game

Gary Sinise and The Lt. Dan Band return to Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl for post-game concert

Gary Sinise and The Lieutenant Dan Band will return December 30 to perform immediately following the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl at a post-game concert presented by Armed Forces Insurance. The concert is free to the public and will once again pay tribute to the men and women of the United States armed forces, as well as their families. This marks the second consecutive year the bowl has offered a complimentary concert to fans at the postseason game.
