The Powell Brothers to Headline Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl Pregame Concert

FORT WORTH, Texas (Oct. 25, 2018)The Powell Brothers, country/Americana recording artists from Houston, will headline the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl pregame concert on Saturday, Dec. 22.

The free concert, presented by Bruce Lowrie Chevrolet and Armed Forces Insurance, will take place in the Ulterra Tailgate Outpost. The Powell Brothers will perform on the American Airlines stage, located in Lot 3 outside Amon G. Carter Stadium, at noon on game day. Kickoff time is set for 2:30 p.m. (CT).

Brothers Taylor Powell (lead vocals) and Blake Powell (lead guitar) front the group. Their recent radio single “Coming Home” spent seven weeks in the top 20 on both the Texas Regional Radio Report and CDX TRACtion Texas charts. In addition, “Somewhere Down the Road,” released in August, was the highest debuting single on the chart. Both songs will be featured on “Leave on the Light,” the band’s first full-length record, which will be released in February 2019.

The Powell Brothers’ 2018 tour schedule includes over 120 concert dates. Formed in 2014, the group has shared the stage with numerous top national and regional acts, including Gary Allan, Lee Brice, The Bellamy Brothers, Mark Chesnutt, Billy Currington, Pat Green, Cody Johnson, Gary P. Nunn, Randy Rogers Band, Granger Smith, Josh Turner and Aaron Watson.

In addition to the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl, The Powell Brothers have combined their passions for music and sports by performing at some of the largest collegiate and professional sporting events in the country, including the NHL Draft, DXL Frisco Bowl, Mitsubishi Motors Las Vegas Bowl, Valero Alamo Bowl and AT&T Red River Showdown.

The annual Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl, played in honor of the Armed Forces of the United States, is the only collegiate football bowl game that has hosted all three U.S. Military Academy football teams – Army (2010, 2017), Air Force (2007-2009, 2012, 2015) and Navy (2013, 2016).

Last year’s game saw Army West Point score 14 points in the final 18 seconds to defeat San Diego State, 42-35. It was the second straight Armed Forces Bowl decided in the final seconds. CBSSports.com has ranked it as the third-best bowl game each of the past two years.

The Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl has featured the “armed forces” theme since 2006. Patriotic overtones recognizing all five branches of the service are prevalent throughout the game. Past Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowls have included fan-fest adventure areas showcasing armed forces hardware; flyovers; demonstrations by several of the military's top skydiving teams; custom homes awarded to wounded warriors; on-field induction ceremonies; armed forces bands and honor guards; and the annual Great American Patriot Award presented by Armed Forces Insurance.
